Mitzie's Jerk - The Homestyle Eatery Next Door

This week for Small Business Saturday, I picked one of my favorite small delicious eateries called Mitzie's Jerk.

It's a Caribbean restaurant in Etobicoke offering roti, jerk chicken and pork, oxtail, curry goat and more. They also offer catering services at very affordable rates. Very homestyle and very personalized too!

I've met Mitzie a couple of times and always enjoy chatting with her - she's definitely created an environment that makes it feel like a friend is making you lunch :).

I love Mitzie's Jerk!

Psst! Remember to join them on their Facebook Page!

[Flashback Friday] The Spice Girls

Remember when these girls were Spice Girls?
Spice Girls in 1997

I definitely remember because at the time I was in boarding school and one of my room-mates was obsessed!! She managed to brainwash me with that Spice World (1997) album and till this day, I know the lyrics to all the songs on this disc.

The Spice Girls all grown up at their final reunion concert in Toronto, Canada (February 2008)

The truth is I don't even know the real names of the 3 other girls - just Victoria Beckham and Melanie Brown. The rest... well, they have sort of faded.

Psst!! For you die hard fans in Toronto, a Spice Girls Tribute Band will be playing live at the El Mocambo on Spadina Ave. Saturday night, complete with singing, choreography, platforms, a live band and, of course, British accents.

{Challenge} 25 Random Things About Me

A few years ago, there was this chain letter going around on Facebook called 25 Random Things About Me but for some reason I skipped the challenge so here it is now :).
  1. I eat my cinnamon buns in a perfect circle (outside right into the yummy gooey centre).
  2. I never bite into an ice lolly or any ice cream on a stick. If it has a layer of chocolate layer, I eat it all first then I work my way to the centre.
  3. Whenever I eat multicoloured candy like Skittles, M&Ms, ball gums, gummies, I eat colours in order that way i get to enjoy each flavour e.g the red first, then the blue etc.
  4. I belong to so many networks and communities and know so many people all over the world, yet I have very few close friends.
  5. I like the smell of rain and love the taste of dirt (like that layer of mud on a tree bark, tu comprends?).
  6. When it comes to my hair, I can be like the average 10 year old boy - not usually a priority LOL. I hate thinking or doing my hair and am always trying to find long term, super easy, wash-and-go styles like dreadlocks, braids and the like.
  7. Whenever I do dishes, I do them in order (e.g. glasses then plates then forks then spoons etc...).
  8. I grew up in 4 different countries.
  9. I last had a room-mate when I was 15 years old (in boarding school).
  10. When I go shopping, I grab items from the back (rather than the ones in the front because I figure too many hands have touched them. With refrigerated foods the front row aren't properly refrigerated anyway and the store people tend to put the soon to expire stuff in the front :)
  11. My middle name was inspired by an 80's comic superhero my mum used to like.
  12. I love meeting strangers (and I prefer to call them new people :).
  13. I love making cupcakes but don't really enjoy eating them.
  14. I have crackling bones.
  15. I started my first business at 21.
  16. I hate doing dishes.
  17. I honestly believe that less than 10% of people in the world are "bad", everyone else doesn't mean to be.
  18. I have never had a girl best friend before.
  19. In a different life I would love to have studied engineering (probably computer or industrial).
  20. I'm obsessed with making lists! [In my notebook I carry everywhere or on my Blackberry when lights are out].
  21. I function better at night.
  22. I believe in Karma.
  23. I have a unique name [so i thought]......but a few years ago when I was conducting my annual Google scan, I learnt there's a GUY (yes, I said GUY) who shares the exact same first and last name as I do SMH.
  24. I love the taste of condensed milk.
  25. Most of my childhood memories are a blur
Voila!

Your turn - come up with your own 25 Random Things and share them!

re:cap

As always, I was doing my daily read on Toronto Life and came across this piece on Where to Get Good Stuff Cheap 2012.

Burger Bar’s Brock Shepherd, a craft beer devotee, designed these ingenious, colourful silicone rubber caps. Good for keeping your half-finished brew fresh, or for preventing you from mixing up your PBR with someone else’s.

The Game Season 5 Premiere: Lot's of Layers with a bit of "The Hangover"

Season 5 of  The Game premiered last night on BET and so I was pretty excited.

I love this show because it's one of the few shows on TV that I can identify with on so many levels especially because a lot of the people on there look like me :). I wish it was actually a mainstream tele show like the Cosbys or Fresh Prince cause it's just such a good show and value to all of society.

Overall it was pretty fun to watch (probably because I'm too biased). The same story lines of Melanie having issue with Derwin's baby mama drama are being extended yadi-yada. Brandy Norwood joined the cast of the cast as Jason Pitts' "real black girl"-interesting...

I wasn't into that whole The Hangover in Mexico opener thing at the beginning but other than that looking forward to another meaningful season!

Bottomline: I'm excited!
